Frequently Asked Questions

 + WHEN SHOULD I BOOK?

My schedule fills up quickly. For local sessions, I recommend booking at least a month in advance. For sessions that involve significant travel, I recommend booking at least 3 months in advance to allow me to advertise the trip and find more people to cover travel fees.

+ I DON'T LIVE IN ILLINOIS. CAN YOU COME TO MY AREA?

Of course! I love to travel. Please contact me far enough in advance (typically at least 3 months) to allow enough time for me to advertise the trip. I do have travel minimums for areas that require more than 4 hours of driving round trip. I do have many trips planned already, so please check my facebook page to see what dates I may be coming to your state!

+ HOW DO I BOOK A SESSION WITH YOU?

Fill out this questionnaire and I will get in contact with you to book!

+ WHAT TIME OF DAY IS BEST?

I try my best to schedule all horse & rider sessions within the hour directly following sunset and the hour directly before sunset. This allows for beautiful, soft, golden light. I avoid the middle of the day, when the sun is at its peak.

Equine Fine Art sessions may be done any time of day, as these utilize a studio set up and artificial lighting.

+ WHERE DO YOU DO PHOTOS?

Typically, photos are done at the barn the horse lives at. Don't worry if you don't think your barn is pretty- I can find beauty anywhere! That being said, it is possible to haul your horse to a state park, beach, or fairgrounds that allow horses. Any fees associated with this will be the responsibility of the client.

Equine Fine Art images only need an indoor arena or wide aisleway, as they are done with a black or white backdrop and studio lighting.

+ WHEN DO I PAY?

I require that a 50% non-refundable retainer be made in order to hold your spot on my calendar. The remaining amount is to be paid the day of your session, prior to beginning.

I do offer payment plans, if needed.

+ TRAVEL FEES?

Travel fees may apply for some trips. These will be discussed at the time of booking and must be paid one week prior to date of the photoshoot.

+ WHAT SHOULD I DO TO PREPARE MY HORSE?

Prepare your horse as though you're going to a show. This includes a meticulous grooming, stain removal, and bathing. You may band or braid the mane, hang a fake tail, and use face glow, if you so choose. Requests to edit out dirt, mud, and manure stains that resulted from lack of preparation will require an additional charge per image.

STRONGLY recommend lunging your horse prior to your session. They don't need to be lunged till they sweat, but I do recommend doing enough to take the edge off. Horses have a sixth sense- as soon as a camera comes out, even the most calm horses can act up.

+ SHOULD I LUNGE MY HORSE?

YES.

+ WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Something fabulous! Have fun with it. Dig through your closet, or go shopping! Find an outfit you feel confident in, that suits you and your horse well. You will receive a styling guide from me when you book your session to jump start your creativity and guide you toward colors that may work best for you and your horse. You can also search pinterest and instagram for outfit inspo.

I do not recommend wearing graphic tees, poorly fitting clothing, or clothing that is not in good repair.

I LOVE helping with outfits- feel free to reach out and let me help style you!

+ WHAT SHOULD MY HORSE WEAR?

This is up to you! I usually recommend a clean nylon halter with a lead rope that is in good repair, or a clean show bridle. You may utilize a saddle as well. Please make sure any tack you use fits your horse well and is in good repair.

+ SHOULD I WEAR MAKEUP?

This is entirely up to you and what you feel comfortable with! I usually recommend wearing at least a little bit of makeup. If you don't usually wear a full face, you don't have to just for photos- a touch of concealer, some mascara, and a great lipstick can make all the difference in the world!

Need help with makeup? Ask me! I was a makeup artist at a previous job and always carry a couple dozen lipsticks to sessions with me.

If you want, hiring a makeup artist can make the photoshoot experience even more fun!

+ WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY IMAGES?

Within one week, you'll receive a sneak peek from your session. Within 4-6 weeks, depending on the season, you will receive your finished online gallery and your code to order print products. Your USB drive and print products will be mailed to you within a couple weeks of ordering.

If you have any deadlines that need to be met- such as ad or yearbook deadlines- please let me know as soon as possible so I can accomodate them.

+ CAN I SHARE MY IMAGES ON SOCIAL MEDIA?

Yes, of course! The images are yours to use however you would like. Credit given to Norfleet Photography (@norfleetphoto on instagram) is always appreciated.
